Australia’s sustainable city

By James Brown

Brisbane is blooming as a clean and green city after being crowned with the 2014 Keep Australia Beautiful, Australian Sustainable City award.

The award features residents’ and Council’s commitment to a sustainable future and recognises the hard work undertaken across the city, from cleaning cultural initiatives that contribute to an improved Brisbane. It celebrates achievements in recycling, little reduction and green energy initiative, with Brisbane judged the best city in three award categories: Australian Sustainable Cities, Litter Prevention and Energy Innovation. In response to storm season clean-ups, Brisbane has taken sustainability in its stride with green waste recycling and the continued delivery of Council projects and services that make the city the most sustainable in the country.
